Below are some suggested plants for a butterfly and hummingbird garden. Learn how to attract some of nature's wonders to your yard by choosing just the right plants!

Butterfly Garden

Butterflies are attracted to flowers by their color and fragrance. Flowers that are purple, lavender, pink, yellow, orange, and red and that grow in clusters with tubular or flat-topped blooms are especially attractive to butterflies. Single flowers are easier for butterflies to approach and extract nectar from. It is good to plan for continuous bloom so you will have butterflies around from early spring through fall.

They also prefer tubular flowers and can easily extract the nectar with their long beaks. Blue is another of their favorite colors. Keep in mind that many of the flowers that attract butterflies will also attract hummingbirds.
